Wimborne Rural PACT Panel (Stour Ward) meets to consider residents’ concerns and decides on two community safety priorities for action.

On Wednesday 19 March 2008 at a meeting of the multi-agency PACT (Partners and Communities Together) Panel that represents the organisations that work on the Wimborne Rural Safer Neighbourhood Team, two community safety priorities were decided on for action.

The priorities were decided by the PACT Panel – made up of the Police, Geoff Thomas a Home Watch representative, Teresa Steel from the Youth Panel, Rhian Tomkins, head mistress of Sturminster Marshall 1st school, Sonia Cade, Parish Councillor for Sturminster Marshall, Wendy Swan, Shapwick Representative, Badg Champion, Youth Club Committee, Hannah Manson from East Dorset Housing Association and Bob Bailey from East Dorset Council – after consideration of a list of community concerns raised during various community engagement opportunities including Surgeries, Street Corner Meeting and Environmental Visual Audits.

This SNT are relatively new and following further Community consultation a third priority will be introduced.

The priorities for action before the PACT Panel meets again in June are:

Priority One:

Reduce instances of Anti-Social behaviour by youngsters in Sturminster Marshall and Shapwick. The Panel requested that the SNT team enforce legislation where appropriate and also engage with youth groups to provide alternative activities for youths in the area.

Priority Two:

The second priority was Reduce the risk of road traffic accidents in Sturminster Marshall and Shapwick by enforcing speeding limits and tackling inconsiderate parking. This priority was set with the specific area of Sturminster Marshall High Street and Station Road in mind.

The PACT process relies on the support and involvement of the community. Local residents are urged to look out for the PACT logo for their opportunity to let the Safer Neighbourhood Team know the issues affecting them in the Stour area.
