February

On Friday 25th January 2008 a further meeting was held at the Memorial Hall under the chairmanship of Mr Bob Bailey, the East Dorset District Council Anti-Social Behaviour Reduction Officer to examine progress made on the various issues forming the Action Plan resulting from the previous meeting held in October 2007.

PC Andy Watkins gave a brief report on his involvement in policing the village, advising that the Information Box referred to in the February edition of Bridge Magazine was now fully operational and its contents were being monitored. He also assured the meeting that he would be taking personal interest in any reports made by residents on the automated telephone system to ensure that they received appropriate attention and reminded those present that all incidents will now be processed by Wimborne instead of Blandford.

Having had experience of dealing with younger residents in his previous posting, PC Watkins indicated his intention to embark on a series of projects in which he hoped to encourage their collaboration. He mentioned the refurbishment of the shelter on the Green, a series of barbeques in the village and a Litter-picking day as typical of his proposals, hoping that they would lead to a closer liaison between the Police and the residents of the village.

He was aware of the misuse of drugs in the area as well as the use of alcohol by minors and explained how steps were being taken to attend to the problem. In respect of anti-social behaviour, he would employ his own system of contacting parents of children causing a disturbance and seek their co-operation before reverting to the Council for action under the ABC System.

On Friday 7th March 2008 a further open meeting is to be held in the Memorial Hall when residents of the village AND YOUNGSTERS, will be invited to address their suggestions to a selected panel as to how a closer community spirit may be developed for the good of all. This is aimed at children in particular in order to identify their concerns and social needs. Posters advertising the meeting have been posted around the village.

Offers have been received from several residents to form a working party to improve the presentation of the roundabout adjacent to the Industrial Estate entrance and official approval has been sought. Any suggestions from those interested in assisting with similar projects, either by way of actual participation or sponsorship, would also be welcome.

Finally, being reminded that Spring is just around the corner encouraging us to start tidying our gardens after the Winter months, remember the well repeated security warnings about securing tools not in use and locking all house doors and windows whilst working outside.
